Amanda Inkster and her team members shine at the Worlds Masters

29 Oct

Amanda, a long time member of our club, participated in the Worlds Masters championships in Australia last month. 193 clubs participated from 30 countries including 6 clubs from New Zealand. Many Australian clubs were represented but there was a large contingent from Brazil, Japan and Germany.

Amanda raced under the Port Chalmers United Rowing Club banner at the championships to meet competition rules that state all crews must race for the same club. Her team members were Michelle Johnson, Joukje Siebenga and Betka Bouskova.

Their gold in the women’s B ( average age 37-42) coxless fours was won in 3min 49sec. The Port Chalmers crew started strongly, completing the first 500m in 1min 56.36sec on its way to a three second lead at the halfway mark. It then powered away down the stretch to finish almost seven seconds ahead of the Australian crew which finished second.

They also gained a bronze in their quad in the D final.

The group trained up to six times a week since the South Island championships in June in the lead up to the championships.  Amanda (below, second from the left) was delighted with the result and enjoyed her time at the  exciting 4 day event.
