Who We Are
Wanaka Rowing Club is a community of people who share a love for rowing and the outdoors. We are based on the shores of Lake Wanaka, New Zealand’s 4th largest lake where the mountain backdrop creates one of the most inspiring rowing environments in the world.
Our Journey
The club was founded in 2007 by a group of locals who wanted to bring rowing to the Upper Clutha. What started with a handful of rowers and borrowed equipment has grown into a club with a vibrant membership of juniors and masters, a boatshed on the lakeside, quality equipment and training programmes that support social and competitive athletes.
Over the years we’ve coached beginners taking their first strokes, celebrated regatta wins, and cheered on members who’ve gone on to row at higher levels. Through it all, the focus has always been on creating a place where people feel welcome.

Our Community
Rowing here isn’t just about the sport. It’s about early mornings on the lake, friendships forged on and off the water, and a sense of belonging. The club thrives because of its volunteers, families, and supporters who make events possible and keep the spirit of rowing alive in Wanaka.
Our People
The heart of the club is its members. From juniors to masters, beginners to experts and everyone in between, every rower and supporter contributes to the energy and character of the club. Our coaches and committee work behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly, but it’s the people who bring the club to life.
