Juniors

Wanaka Rowing Club offers young athletes  programmes that develop sound technique, fitness and confidence whilst encouraging each athlete to reach their potential in a supportive and fun environment. Our Juniors squad is for rowers of  school age who want to train regularly, compete at regattas, and build their skills both on and off the water. Many of our junior rowers go on to represent the club and region at South Island and National events. Training sessions are held multiple times each week, led by experienced coaches who guide rowers through structured programs suited to their level. Juniors make lifelong friends, learn the importance of commitment, discipline, perseverance, resilience and teamwork.

Juniors Learn to Row

Our 6 week Juniors Learn to Row programme introduces young people to the sport in a fun and relaxed way. Participants learn the basics of rowing technique on ergs in the club gym and in boats on the water, boat handling, water safety, and teamwork during several sessions each week for the duration of the programme It’s a great way to try something new, make friends, and build confidence. No experience is needed, and all equipment is provided. Many who start here go on to join the competitive Juniors squad, whilst others simply enjoy the experience of being on the water. The focus is on enjoyment and participation rather than competition.
