Belated congratulations to Sean O’Connell and Shane Gibson for their impressive win in the double (C grade – 42 to 49 years) at the New Zealand Masters in February. Not too shabby for you young fellows! Sean and Shane then joined Jaime Hutter and Marc Simmonds in the quad and gained a bronze in the C grade. Nice Work.
Jill Austin has also been making us proud. She needed a sack to carry her medals from the same event. Her successes included: A gold in the womens singles C grade, a gold in doubles B grade (Jill rowed with a composite crew with Dunstan), a bronze in the mixed doubles C grade with Mark Simonds, a gold in the quad B grade (Jill rowed with a mixed composite crew with Otago) and a silver in the quad B grade (again with Otago).
Jill was on a winning streak at another regatta a few months later. She joined up with Amanda Inkster at the Lakes Hayes regatta and won the women’s double. Impressive!
